Цифровые технологии в гражданском обществе — это инструменты и сервисы, которые развивают гражданское общество, создают прозрачность правительства за счет использования открытых данных, упрощают коммуникацию между гражданами и правительством, вовлекают общественность в решение важных вопросов.

Гражданские технологии (en. Civic technology или Civic Tech) улучшают отношения между людьми и правительством с помощью программного обеспечения для коммуникаций, принятия решений, предоставления услуг и политических процессов. Он включает в себя информационные и коммуникационные технологии, поддерживающие правительство с помощью программного обеспечения, созданного группами волонтеров, некоммерческих организаций, консультантов и частных компаний под руководством сообщества, а также встроенными техническими группами, работающими в правительстве.
