Moldova joins the Digital Public Goods Alliance

Moldova joins the Digital Public Goods Alliance

Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization of the Republic of Moldova signed an agreement to join to Digital Public Goods Alliance (DPGA).

DPGA is an initiative dedicated to accelerating the achievement of sustainable development goals in developing countries by promoting the discovery, creation, use, and investment in public digital assets. This represents a significant opportunity, and we are aware of the essential role that digital transformation can play in advancing the DPGA mission and consolidating public digital assets.

The alignment of efforts between the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization and the DPGA is a source of pride, and the planned activities will be integrated into the Annual Map of the DPGA. The common objectives include:

  • Defining a national vision regarding public digital assets, data management, and the overall process of digital transformation;
  • Digitizing public services is an endeavor that resonates with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 17 – “Partnerships for goals”.
  • Testing Public Digital Assets, exploring their implementation for digital IDs and instant payments.

“it is not necessary to attain the status of a developed country before embracing digitalization. We demonstrate that even in a developing country like the Republic of Moldova, digitalization can be adopted and successfully used to generate opportunities, combat corruption, engage citizens in the decision-making process, and provide high-quality services,” stated Dumitru Alaiba, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization.

In the case of Moldova, involvement in this alliance represents a significant decision. It is a strong commitment to collaborate towards progress, leveraging the potential of digital public goods to stimulate sustainable development.

To ensure the successful adoption of DPI/DPG, the Government of Moldova/MDED collaborates with UNDP Moldova to leverage data in governance and policies, and is working on establishing a Governance Data Framework. The activity is supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
